Miami and Miami Beach

Miami (City of Miami) is a city in Florida, USA, located on the Miami River. It is the seat of Miami Dade County.  It has a population of more than 400,000 and its metropolitan area encompasses more than 5.4 million people, which makes it the 7th largest city in the U.S. Miami became the 4th largest area urbanized in the country, after New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

The city is home to numerous corporate offices, banks, and television studios. It is also an international center of popular entertainment in television, music, fashion and performing arts. The Port of Miami is the port which houses the bulk of the world cruises and is home also to many company cruise lines.  In addition, the city has the largest concentration of international banks across the U. S.

The city covers a total area of 143.15km2 or 55.271 square miles. Of this area 92.68km2 or 35.784 square miles is land and water is 50.73km2 or 19.587 square miles. Miami is the only city in the United States, contoured by two national parks, the Everglades National Park in the west and Biscayne National Park to the east.  Its coastal location on the Tropic of Cancer causes the climate to be mild and pleasant throughout the year.

Miami has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers, winters are mild and dry. The city experiences low temperatures from November to March but no sharp decrease in temperatures.  The wet season prevails from May to September and the dry season offers mild temperatures and will have light winter rainfall.  The hurricane season usually coincides with the wet season.  Most tourists prefer to visit this city during the months of October to April.

Thousands of Hispanic immigrants from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Central America and South America settled in Miami.  The Spanish language is spoken almost everywhere in the city. The signs are in both languages, especially those near the Latin Quarter commonly known as "Little Havana".
Miami and Miami Beach are different cities. Miami Beach is located on the sea shore and is touristy.  It is where you generally find hotels and vacation apartments. Miami is located inland and is a cosmopolitan city with a mild Latin flavor.
